	Introduction :	Johnny Y C Chan commenced his career in racing when he joined the Hong Kong Jockey Club Apprentice Training School in 1976. In 1979 he was indentured to trainer Cliff Robertson. After spending five years as an apprentice, Chan became a riding boy and helped out with stable chores. In 1989 Johnny joined the Macau Jockey Club as an assistant trainer attached to former MJC trainer P C Leung. He was granted a trainer’s license in 1991.
