Brazilian jockey Fausto Henrique enjoyed his best day yet in Macau with a winning treble on Saturdays turf program.
Henrique kicked off his day with a perfect front running ride on the Stephen Chow trained One More Again to lead throughout in the Class 4 Handicap over 1500 metres. One More Again was left alone in front and Henrique made full use of that fact to slow the tempo noticeably, and stack the small field of eight up in the run. With no pressure until straightening the Brazilian kicked the son of Gallant Guru (Aus) away at the 250 metre point for an easy win.
Course specialist Hopefully Tomorrow made it six wins at his favorite 1500 metre distance when he led throughout to win the Class 2 & 3 over 1500 metres. Henrique again made the most of a soft lead to rate the six year to perfection, and had enough in hand to stave off a late surge by One Belt One Road (Eric Cheung) to win by three quarters of a length, with race favorite Rose Gold Alloy (Luis Corrales) in third.
The win gave trainer Tony Fung an extra margin over Danny Wong in the Trainers Premiership giving him 33 victories to Wong’s 30, with only six race days remaining for the season.
The K H Leong prepared Nothing To Say was the last of Henrique’s winners when he defied the pattern of the day to storm home out wide to win the Class 4 over 1500 metres. On a day where the first four winners all led on a track that appeared difficult to make ground on, Nothing To say came from well off them to power home late out wide to beat race favorite Winning Express (Luis Corrales)
The yielding to soft track proved to be the undoing of many with not one favorite saluting on the day in what was a nightmare afternoon for punters.
Fausto Henrique has only been in Macau since March this year, but has already posted 12 winners and 21 placings from his 109 rides. Henrique who is only twenty three years old, completed his apprenticeship in Rio de Janeiro and has since ridden in Norway, Denmark and Sweden prior to coming to Macau. He has ridden 284 career winners to date.
Luis Corrales booted home a winning double on Saturday to take him well clear into second place in the riders standing on 35 winners behind Ruan Maia who has been a runaway leader all season and at the moment sits on 53 victories.
Corrales was off the mark in race two the Class 6 over 1200 metres with an all the way victory on Infinite Treasure who relished to conditions to win easily over Special Steel (Horace Lam), with Highspot (Eric Cheung) running for third.
Californiatreasure from the K H Leong stable was the second of Corrales winners when he made light work of his wide gate of barrier 11 to cross and lead throughout to win easily in the Class 2 over 1200 metres.
The last of the day was taken out by the Tommy Tse prepared Off The Bench who looped to field from the six hundred and found the better ground the straight to win the Class 3 & 4 over 1800 metres.
Ridden by Eric Cheung, Off The Bench was another that enjoyed the wet conditions and raced away late to beat Lucky Today (Wayne Smith) with fast finishing Victory Achiever (Fausto Henrique) in third.
