Japanese rider Masakazu (Masa) Tanaka commenced his apprenticeship in Australia at the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Centre at Deagon in 2004, and was granted a jockeys’ licence in 2009.
Tanaka then rode successfully in New Zealand from up until 2013 winning a total of 229 races with his biggest win the Group 1 Thorndon Mile aboard Booming in 2011. In 2013 he was licenced in South Korea where he rode over 150 winners in four season there.
Tanaka arrived in Macau in January 2020 and won his race in the enclave on Luen On Success for trainer Geoff Allendorf in March 2020 and finished the season with 12 winners.
Tanaka in currently in third place on the rider’s standings with 32 winners.
He has ridden in Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.
